cones and vaults \\ smooth geometries
Film Studio in Seaport, Boston, gsd core II
The project begins as a proposition for a film studio located near the Seaport area (~150,000 sq.ft), developed from the study of a precedent - the Bacardi Bottling Plant by Candela. It explores the relationship between different tectonic languages and how it creates both the poche and the space: conic cross-vaults, conic barrel-vaults, and rectilinear spaces. The conic cross-vault becomes the overarching roof that organizes the massing, while the conic barrel-vault disrupts and reorganizes the interior space to create differences in spatial hierarchy, variations in quality of space, and organization in program uses.
